1/2 MARATHON COURSE and TIMELINE
Sunday, January 18, 2009
8:25 AM – Wheelchair Start
8:30 AM – Entire Field Start – Wave
9:10 AM – Last person leaves the Start
By 7:30 AM all traffic control equipment should be set up and all traffic control personnel on post. The section overlapping the marathon course should be set by 6:30 AM. A “soft closure” should be in effect until 8:25 AM. At 8:25 AM the race starts and the course is completely sealed off to traffic (“hard closure”). Some traffic “metering” may be possible at the latter miles of the course if necessary. Metering should be discontinued as the first runner (wheelchair) passes each traffic position and not be resumed until the last participant has passed or the pack has thinned out enough to do so safely. Note that with a field as large as this one (20,000 projected) it will take a long time for the pack to thin out.
